Privacy Policy
Better NAIA respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have when using our website.
This policy is written with the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012, also known as Republic Act No. 10173, in mind. The law protects personal information and promotes the privacy rights of individuals. The National Privacy Commission also recognizes the principles of transparency, legitimate purpose, and proportionality in personal data processing.
1. Who we are
Better NAIA is a website that provides information, guides, and advisories related to NAIA and air travel.
For privacy-related questions, you may contact:
Mikko Gozalo
Email: mikko@betternaia.com
2. Personal information we collect
You do not need to provide personal information to access or use Better NAIA.
We do not require you to create an account, sign in, submit your name, or provide contact details to browse the site.
Two parts of the site let you send something in, and both are your choice.
Write a review of a restaurant or lounge and you can add a name and an email address. Both are optional, and you can post with neither. We publish the name alongside your review if you give one. We never publish the email or show it to anyone else, and we use it only to ask you about what you wrote.
Ask our chat assistant a question and we keep your question and its reply, so the assistant can follow the thread and so we can find the answers it gets wrong.
We also collect some technical information automatically when you visit the website.
3. Information collected automatically
First-party cookies
Better NAIA sets a small number of its own cookies.
When you recommend a place or write a review, the site sets a visitor-id cookie holding a random identifier. It lets us show your own vote and review back to you when you return to a page, so you can change your mind, and it stops one person voting over and over on the same place. We set it only once you recommend something or post a review. Scripts on the page cannot read it, it travels only over HTTPS, and it lasts up to two years. It holds no name and no email, and on its own it does not identify you.
We also use a first-party cookie when we test small design variations, so that you keep seeing the same version of a page across visits. It stores only the name of the variant you were assigned, is kept for up to one year, and does not identify you.
Our chat assistant keeps a conversation identifier in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, so a conversation survives a page reload. Clearing your browser storage ends it.
Google Analytics and Cloudflare set their own cookies, described in the third-party services section below. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell what these cookies collect.
Server logs
Like most websites, our server may automatically record basic technical information when you visit Better NAIA. This may include:
- Your IP address
- Browser type
- Device type
- Pages visited
- Date and time of access
- Referring page or website
We use server logs to keep the website secure, diagnose technical issues, understand traffic patterns, and improve performance.
4. Third-party services
Better NAIA uses some third-party services to help operate and improve the website.
Cloudflare
Better NAIA runs on our own servers in the Philippines, but you never reach those servers directly. Cloudflare stands in front of them as a proxy and content delivery network, so your request arrives at Cloudflare first and Cloudflare passes it on to us.
Cloudflare therefore handles your IP address, the page you asked for, and basic request details, and it may set its own cookies to keep the site fast and to tell real visitors apart from automated traffic. It also encrypts the connection between your browser and the site, and absorbs attacks aimed at the servers.
Cloudflare acts as our service provider for this and processes the traffic under its own privacy policy and terms.
Cloudflare Turnstile
Cloudflare Turnstile checks recommendations and written reviews before we accept them, which keeps out spam and automated submissions. It reads signals from your browser to judge whether a person sent the submission, and most of the time it reaches that judgement without asking you to do anything.
Turnstile runs on the pages where you can leave feedback, and only at the moment you submit. We use it to sort people from bots, and for nothing else.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This helps us improve Better NAIA, such as by seeing which pages are useful, which pages need improvement, and how visitors move through the website.
Google Analytics may collect information such as pages visited, device and browser information, approximate location, and interactions with the site.
This includes searches made on the site: the words you type into Better NAIA's search are recorded as analytics events so we can improve search results and content. Search terms are not linked to your name or contact details, which we do not collect.
Chat assistant
Better NAIA has a chat assistant that answers questions about the airport. Your message goes to our own server, which passes it to an external AI provider to write the reply. We keep the conversation so the assistant can follow the thread, so you can pick it back up after a reload, and so we can find the answers it gets wrong.
Please leave out anything you would not want kept, such as passport numbers, booking references, or contact details. The assistant needs only your question. Starting a conversation also runs a short automatic check in your browser to keep bots out, which collects nothing about you.
Report an answer as wrong and we keep what you sent with that conversation so we can look into it.
Klook Affiliate Program
We monetize the website through the Klook Affiliate Program. Some links on Better NAIA point to Klook, and if you make a booking after following one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
When you click an affiliate link, Klook may use cookies or similar technologies to attribute your visit and any booking to Better NAIA, and to measure how its affiliate links perform.
Better NAIA does not control Klook's cookies or tracking technologies. Klook is responsible for how it processes information through its own services, under its own privacy policy.
5. How we use information
We may use collected information to:
- Keep the website working properly
- Show your own recommendation and review back to you, and let you change them
- Publish reviews once we have read and approved them
- Answer questions in the chat assistant, and fix answers it gets wrong
- Understand how visitors use Better NAIA
- Improve site content, design, speed, and usability
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam, security threats, or technical problems
- Support monetization through affiliate links to Klook
We do not sell personal information.
We read every review before it appears. We may decline to publish one, or take it down later, if it is spam, abusive, or has nothing to do with the place you wrote about.
6. Legal basis and privacy principles
Where the Data Privacy Act of 2012 applies, we aim to process information according to the principles of:
Transparency: being clear about what information is collected and how it is used.
Legitimate purpose: using information only for valid website-related purposes.
Proportionality: collecting and using only what is reasonably needed.
The National Privacy Commission describes these as key data privacy principles under Philippine data protection rules.
7. Cookies and your choices
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings.
Browsing works without them. Clear or block them and the site can no longer recognize a recommendation or review as yours, so you lose the ability to change one you already left, and parts of the site may stop behaving consistently.
For Google Analytics, you may manage your preferences through Google's own privacy settings. You can clear the cookies Klook sets after you follow an affiliate link through your browser settings and Klook's own privacy controls, and Cloudflare's the same way, though the site needs some of Cloudflare's to load at all.
If you want a review taken down, or the email you left removed, email us and we will do it.
8. Data retention
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or allowed by law.
Server logs are retained for up to one year for security, troubleshooting, analytics, and operational purposes, then deleted or anonymized.
Data collected through Google Analytics is retained according to Google's own policies and our analytics settings.
Published reviews stay up for as long as the review section exists, since people are meant to read them. We keep an email address only while we might still need it to ask you about that review, and we delete it whenever you ask. We keep chat conversations while they help us improve the assistant, then delete them.
9. Data sharing
We may share limited technical or usage information with service providers that help us operate the website, such as analytics, affiliate partners, infrastructure, or security providers.
We host the website on our own servers in the Philippines rather than with a hosting company. Cloudflare proxies all traffic to those servers, so your requests cross Cloudflare's network before they reach us, and that network reaches well outside the Philippines. Your reviews, recommendations, and chat conversations live on our own servers.
These providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and applicable laws.
We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or lawful government request.
10. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the website and any information processed through it against unauthorized access, misuse, loss, or disclosure.
However, no website, server, or internet transmission is completely secure.
11. Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012, data subjects have rights that may include the right to be informed, access personal data, object to processing, request correction, request erasure or blocking, data portability, damages, and filing a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.
Because Better NAIA does not require personal information to access the site, we may not always have information that directly identifies you. Where we do hold something, it is usually because you chose to send it: a review, a name published with it, an email address, or a chat conversation. Tell us roughly when and where you left it and we can find it, correct it, or delete it.
You may contact us at any time with privacy-related questions or requests.
12. Children's privacy
Better NAIA is not intended to collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly require children to provide personal information to use the site.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
Continued use of Better NAIA after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
14. Contact us
For privacy concerns, questions, or requests, contact:
